Discernment Process

with the Missionary Sisters

of the Immaculate Conception

(SMIC)

Discernment Prayer

Almighty, eternal
just and merciful God,
Give us the grace to do for You alone,
what we know You want us to do and
always to desire what pleases You.

Inwardly cleansed, interiorly
enlightened and influenced
by the fire of the Holy Spirit,
may we be able to follow
in the footprints

of Your beloved Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
and by Your grace alone,
may we make our way to You,
Most High, Who live and rule
in perfect Trinity and simple Unity,
and are glorified God Almighty,
forever and ever.
Amen.

From St. Francis' "Letter to the Entire Order"

Initial Dialogue

This is one of the first steps in the process. You will get in touch with our Vocation Minister Sr. Andrea Westkamp (vocationssmic@aol.com ). Usually the dialogue takes place through personal meetings, phone, and e-mail correspondence. During this time, Sr. Andrea will get a general impression of you, your spiritual journey, and your call to religious life. You will have the opportunity to ask the questions that surface for you and to learn more about discernment.

Affiliate Program

The Affiliate Program is a step closer to getting to know the Missionary Sisters and to observe how we live out our charism. You will meet with Sr. Andrea regularly and engage in a discernment process unique to the Missionary Sisters. There will be opportunity for you to come and stay with us for weekends or for community events.

If it becomes clearer that you feel called to our way of life, we will invite you to live with us for a longer period of time. During this live-in experience, you will remain employed and assume your own expenses.

The Affiliate Program can last from 6 months to 2 years. The formal application process for entrance concludes this phase.
