Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope
that this e-mail finds you well.
I am sending you a heads-up
that you can distribute to your constituencies as appropriate.
The Action Commission and
Staff of FAN are pleased to inform you of an upcoming "mini-campaign"
to promote a consistent ethic of life message. This mini-campaign is
in coordination with the U.S. Bishop's campaign regarding the Freedom
of Choice Act (FOCA), and will coincide with the March for Life (Jan
22nd) in Washington, DC. Many of our members have inquired about FAN's
approach to life issues. In our organizing principles we are very
clear that we take the stance of the consistent ethic of life.
This mini-campaign will
include the following resources, which will be available on our website,
www.franciscanaction.org:
Bulletin/Newsletter
Announcement of the Campaign (for people to use in bulletins and
newsletters)-- to be posted on the website by January 12
The mini-campaign itself
will run from January 21-January 30, 2009. The campaign will include:
•
Prayer and spiritual reflection on Life
•
Resources and reflection on a Franciscan
perspective on the consistent ethic of life
•
An opportunity to write your members of
Congress encouraging them to support life and oppose the FOCA
•
Ways to invite others to stand for the
fullness of life
This mini-campaign will
provide an opportunity for Franciscans and Franciscan-hearted people to
do one of the things they do best, build bridges. Many times the
rhetoric and actions regarding life issues come across in ways that
divide people of faith. Franciscans can play a role to help change
this unfortunate dynamic. Although this will be a small and humble
effort, we must help furthering this approach to the life issue.
I hope that you will be
able to participate in this work.
Peace and All Good,
Russ
